First Delivery of Alternative Fuels at ICL Platin
September 26, 2011
Irish Cement has taken delivery of its first load of Solid Recoverable
Fuel (SRF) at Platin Works.
SRF is a specially prepared clean dry blend of fragments of plastics, paper, cardboard and textiles that arise once recycling of waste materials has been completed.
This waste derived Alternative Fuel will be used to reduce our dependence on the current fossil fuels in use, and in doing so divert waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill in Ireland.
This first delivery signals the beginning of an ambitious ramp-up plan to ultimately substitute over 50% of the thermal energy requirements of the cement kiln process at Platin Works with sustainable fuel alternatives.
